The Boolchand Story

Since Boolchand’s first store opened in 1930 on the island of Curaçao, our company has witnessed extraordinary growth. Today, we’re proud to commemorate over 90 years in business, spanning numerous continents and four generations. As we approach our centennial anniversary, we recognize that Boolchand’s list of accomplishments wouldn’t have been possible without our rich history and the people who’ve supported us along the way.

Our Beginnings

At the time Boolchand’s first store was opened, trade was known as a risky endeavor. Without regulations and legal drafts to protect businesses, there were many obstacles that would discourage people from pursuing their dreams. Many of them did. But not Mr. Doulatram Boolchand Nandwani, known fondly to us as “Dada.” His amazing legacy began with Boolchand’s first store in Curaçao, which was opened by his father, Mr. Boolchand Pessoomal Nandwani.

Generations of Growth

This single location supported Mr. Boolchand Pessoomal Nandwani’s family in India for over 20 years before Dada arrived, helping him re-brand, expand and grow the business to Venezuela, St. Maarten, Bonaire, St. Thomas and Aruba. When the next generation joined the business, additional brands were introduced while new stores opened in St. Kitts, Miami and Puerto Rico.

Diversifying the Portfolio

Over the years, the Boolchand Group has introduced and partnered with brands including Apple, Bose, Canon, Crocs, Havaianas, Movado, Nikon, Pandora, Samsung, Sony and so much more. With an expansive portfolio of products and stores, our family business has become one of the premier omnichannel retailers of consumer electronics and lifestyle products in the Caribbean region.

As a result of the relationships the family built with vendors, customers and other industry leaders, the business has further diversified to incorporate distribution, wholesale and business-to-business throughout the Caribbean in the last two decades.

A Journey in the Making

Today, the Boolchand Group employs over 250 people and operates 21 retail stores in seven territories, a distribution business headquartered in Curaçao and an e-commerce website that will continue to enhance our journey into the 21st century.
